Global food shortages more likely due to climate change: Report
Posted On: Aug. 17, 2015 12:00 AM CSTA joint U.S.-British taskforce has warned in a report that global food shortages will become more frequent and severe due to climate change, reports Reuters.
The taskforce said that food shortages would become three times more likely.
Severe production shocks, including food shortages, price spikes and market volatility, are expected to occur every 30 years by 2040, the taskforce added.
Climate-linked market disruptions could result in civil unrest, the report said.
"In fragile political contexts where household food insecurity is high, civil unrest might spill over into violence or conflict," added the report.
