Typhoon damage pegged at $1.4 billion

China's Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief headquarters said that direct economic losses from typhoon Soudelor that hit the nation's Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces have been pegged at 8.73 billion Chinese yuan ($1.4 billion), reports Xinhua.

Soudelor affected 3 million people and damaged 110,000 hectares of crops in the provinces. Fujian's flood control and drought relief office has estimated direct economic losses from the typhoon in the province to be in excess of CNY 4 billion.
