EEOC to mark 50 years with progress report

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Monday said it plans to hold a meeting about “subtle forms” of discrimination later this week to mark its 50th anniversary.

“EEOC at 50: Progress and Continuing Challenges in Eradicating Employment Discrimination” will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at agency headquarters, 131 M St. NE, Washington, D.C.

In addition to subtle forms of discrimination, panelists also will discuss employment practices that can reduce barriers to equal opportunity.

In conjunction with the meeting, the agency will release “American Experiences Versus American Expectations,” an update of a 1977 EEOC report, “Black Experiences Versus Black Expectations.” The report uses EEOC data to examine changes in participation rates of minorities in the American workforce from 1966 to 2013.
