Disaster, climate risk talks at U.N. focus on re/insurance

Recent talks at the United Nations over disaster and climate risk reduction continued to focus on insurance and reinsurance, and indicated that regulatory reform is key to making risk transfer more available, Artemis.bm reported.

The United Nations' Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, said climate change impacts "are accelerating… weather-related disasters are more frequent and more intense," adding that the insurance sector "can play an important role" in helping ease the financial burden.

Mr. Ki-moon called disaster risk reduction a "front-line defense against the impact of climate change."
