Catastrophic food shortages could cause global societal collapse by 2040: Study

A model supported by the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office has suggested that global society will collapse by 2040 because of catastrophic food shortages if policies are not changed, reports The Independent.

"The results show that based on plausible climate trends and a total failure to change course, the global food supply system would face catastrophic losses, and an unprecedented epidemic of food riots," an official said.

Meanwhile, Lloyd's of London said in a recent report that the "global food system is under chronic pressure."
