Las Vegas Hard Rock reveals 7-month payment card hack

Hackers obtained credit and debit card information from customers at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas over a seven-month period that ended April 2, its chief operating officer said.

In a statement last week, Jody Lake said hackers acquired the names, card numbers, expiration dates and security codes on the payment cards between Sept. 3, 2014, and April 2, 2015, at certain retail, bar and service locations, including its Culinary Dropout restaurant.

The attack did not affect transactions at the hotel and casino, among other locations.

The statement did not indicate how many customers were affected, and Mr. Lake could not be reached for further comment.

The breach has been contained, Mr. Lake said in the statement.

“We immediately responded upon learning of a potential security issue, engaging outside information security experts to investigate and implementing additional security measures. At the same time, we alerted law enforcement authorities of the criminal attack. The attack was contained on April 2, 2015.”

The statement also said, “We have worked diligently with law enforcement authorities and a respected third-party information security firm to contain the incident and implement additional security controls.”
