Generali division to focus on North American property/casualty

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial has launched a New York-based U.S. division to serve the North American property/casualty insurance market, the Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. unit said Monday.

GC&C has tapped several executives to lead the division, including Bill Skapof, former senior vice president of international at Zurich North America Inc., who has been named chief underwriting officer, Generali said in a statement.

Andrew Sims, formerly head of risk management for property with QBE North America, has been named senior vice president of multinational property and construction at GC&C, and Warren Berey has been tapped as senior vice president of foreign casualty and reverse flow, according to the statement. Mr. Berey was previously vice president of underwriting with Zurich North America, a spokeswoman for Generali said Monday.

Finally, GC&C named Jose Menendez as head of broker relations. According to the spokeswoman, Mr. Menendez was most recently chief operating officer of Generali’s U.S. branch.

The team, which is based in New York, reports to Chris Carnicelli, head of global business lines in North America and chairman and CEO of the Generali U.S. branch.

“GC&C business in the United States will initially leverage its strengths and focus on multinational property insurance, builders risk, international casualty and casualty package solutions,” Mr. Carnicelli said in the statement.

Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. is based in Trieste, Italy.
