The Connecticut Senate has approved Katharine L. Wade to serve as the state’s insurance commissioner.

Ms. Wade, most recently CIGNA Corp.’s vice president of public policy, government affairs and U.S. compliance, won approval on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by Democratic Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, Ms. Wade joined CIGNA in 1992.

Gov. Malloy nominated Ms. Wade to succeed former Commissioner Thomas Leonardi last month. Mr. Leonardi left the post last year to take a job in the private sector.
