Rising population to increase floods and drought risk to cities: Report

A report in the Global Environmental Change journal has said that increasing population would increase the risk of floods and drought in several cities globally, RTCC reported citing Climate News Network.

Several coastal cities in Asia, Africa and America would be at high risk of damaging floods. By 2030, about 40% of global urban land would be in high-frequency flood zones, as opposed to the 30% in 2000, the report said. Floods and drought constituted over a quarter of all global insured losses in 2013.
