AIG leads coverage of crashed TransAsia plane in Taiwan

American International Group Inc. leads the insurance coverage for the TransAsia Airways turboprop plane that crashed into a river in Taipei, Taiwan, on Wednesday, killing at least 12 people, sources said.

Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C. was the broker for the insurance coverage, JLT said.

''We act on behalf of TransAsia and are providing every assistance as is appropriate in these tragic circumstances,” a JLT spokesman said in an emailed statement.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those on board who lost their lives and for the injured,” it added.

The plane crashed shortly after take off in Taipei en route to the island of Kinmen off China, with 58 people on board.

TransAsia suffered another loss in July when a plane went down in Taiwan while trying to land in typhoon conditions.
