$25.5 million in economic losses from winter storm in China

The recent winter storm that lashed several central Chinese provinces has resulted in direct economic losses worth 160 million Chinese yuan ($25.5 million) in the country's Hubei province, Xinhua reports.

The snowstorm hit 28,000 hectares of crops and damaged 188 houses.

Local authorities said that days of blizzards and icy rain left houses collapsed, affected traffic and destroyed crops in the central provinces.

Rains and snow blocked several highways in the Hunan province.
