Microelectronic failures covered by Hartford Steam Boiler

Engineering and technical risk insurer Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Co. has launched HSB TechAdvantage, an equipment breakdown and technology insurance that covers losses from microelectronic failures.

The product extends coverage to circuit boards, computer chips and other microcircuitry without requiring evidence of physical damage, the Hartford, Connecticut-based unit of Munich Reinsurance Co. said Thursday in a statement.

HSB TechAdvantage covers losses from business interruption, data loss and reputational damage, Hartford Steam Boiler said.

The product also includes enhancements to existing service-interruption coverage for cloud computing services, and adds data restoration coverage for data lost due to a utility service interruption, the company said.

Off-premises business income and extra expense coverage for mobile equipment and technology, and public relations coverage to address business interruption and reputational damage are also included, according to the statement.
