Dermot O'Donohoe to head Hamilton Insurance operations at Lloyd's

Hamilton Insurance Group Ltd. has appointed Dermot O'Donohoe to lead the company's operations at Lloyd's of London.

Hamilton, Bermuda-based Hamilton in November announced the acquisition of Sportscover Underwriting Ltd., a Lloyd's of London managing agency that manages syndicate 3334.

Mr. O'Donohoe, who most recently was group CEO at Torus Insurance Holdings Ltd., will be appointed CEO of Sportscover Underwriting Ltd., subject to regulatory approval, Hamilton said Sunday in a statement. Hamilton said it intends to rename Sportscover as Hamilton Underwriting Ltd., also subject to regulatory approval.

Mr. O'Donohoe, who also previously was president and CEO of XL Group P.L.C.'s European operations and CEO of XL's London market operations, among other roles, oversaw the transition of Torus to Enstar Group Ltd., which bought the company in November 2014.

“I am delighted to announce that Dermot will be joining the Hamilton team,” said Brian Duperreault, CEO of Hamilton, in the statement. “He's a superb underwriter with more than 30 years' experience in the United Kingdom and Europe. During that time he profitably led, developed and grew many lines of business.”

“Lloyd's influence in the global marketplace cannot be overstated,” Mr. Duperreault added. “As we've previously noted, it is critical to the successful implementation of our business strategy.”
