Michael Consedine to leave Pennsylvania insurance commissioner post

Michael Consedine, commissioner of the Pennsylvania Insurance Department and president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, will leave his state post Jan. 20 as Pennsylvania's next governor, Democrat Tom Wolf, is sworn into office.

Mr. Consedine was appointed insurance commissioner by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett in January 2011. The Republican incumbent was unseated by Gov.-elect Wolf in the November elections, the only sitting GOP gubernatorial candidate to be defeated.

A spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department had no information on when a new insurance commissioner would be appointed.

Mr. Consedine was elected as president-elect of the NAIC on Nov. 19, 2014, and began his term Jan. 1. According to the NAIC bylaws, he will serve for one year. A special election will be held to determine his successor, though details are still developing.
