AIG promotes exec to CEO of life, health and disability

Charlie Shamieh has been named CEO of life, health and disability insurance at American International Group Inc., effective in March 2015, AIG announced Thursday.

Mr. Shamieh is succeeding James Mallon, chief life and health product officer of global consumer insurance, who is retiring after 10 years at AIG, according to an AIG spokesman.

Alessa Quane, currently chief risk officer for commercial insurance, will assume Mr. Shamieh's responsibilities as corporate chief actuary, overseeing global actuarial and value management. Jeff Farber, AIG deputy chief financial officer, will succeed Ms. Quane as chief risk officer for commercial insurance.

Mr. Shamieh will report to Consumer Insurance CEO Kevin Hogan and Ms. Quane will report to Chief Financial Officer David Herzog.
