Workers comp claimants face some negative opinions in U.S.: Survey

Most workers compensation claims are filed by “people who don’t want to work,” said 37% of people who responded to a new survey about Americans’ general opinions of workers comp that was released Wednesday by Summit Pharmacy Inc.

More than 2,000 people 18 and over participated in the online survey through Harris Poll from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, Phoenix-based Summit Pharmacy, which provides medication services to injured workers, said in a statement. It was not clear if respondents themselves had been injured on the job or had filed workers comp claims.

The survey also found that the workers comp process is viewed by many as “overly complex.” About 35% of respondents said they think an advanced degree is necessary to properly fill out all the paperwork associated with a workers comp claim, according to the survey.

Meanwhile, 34% of respondents said they were worried they wouldn’t be able to get the pain medications prescribed by their doctors if they were injured on the job.
