Increased harsh winter risks in Europe, Asia due to Arctic sea ice decline: Scientists

Japanese researchers have said that the risks of severe winters in Asia and Europe have doubled owing to thinning Arctic sea ice in the past decade, reported Bloomberg.

The researchers' data support the views of United Nations climate scientists that a rise in average temperature would result in severe storms in some regions. A researcher from the Scott Polar Research Institute said that despite slower average surface warming since 2000, the Arctic "has gone on warming rapidly throughout this time."
