JLT Specialty Insurance Services Inc., the U.S. arm of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C., is buying part of the energy business of Alliant Insurance Services Inc. that focuses on larger and more complex major and international accounts, the company said in a statement Friday.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, including the size of the business acquired. About 20 Alliant staff will be joining JLT Specialty, Jim Pierce, chairman of JLT Specialty said in an email.

The deal is a further “build-out of our U.S. specialty capabilities into the energy arena,” Mike Rice, CEO of JLT Specialty said in the statement.

JLT has made several key hires in an effort to increase its presence in the U.S. over the past several months. For example, Mr. Pierce joined JLT from Marsh L.L.C. in September.

“The transaction aligns with our company's strategy for delivering targeted growth in the energy sector,” said Tom Corbett, chairman and CEO of Alliant, in the statement.
