NCCI recommends Kansas workers comp rate cut of 10.4% in 2015

The National Council on Compensation Insurance Inc. has proposed a 10.4% decrease in Kansas workers compensation advisory rates for 2015.

Boca Raton, Florida-based NCCI attributed its proposed rate filing to falling lost-time workers comp claim frequency, according to a presentation posted online Sept. 18 by the workers compensation ratings and research agency. Frequency declined 0.9% in 2012 and fell 7.8% in 2011, NCCI said.

Despite the drop in workers comp frequency, Kansas workers comp indemnity claim severity rose 2.4% in 2012, NCCI said. That’s compared with a 10.6% decrease in indemnity severity for the state in 2011.

The workers comp rate decrease would be effective Jan. 1, 2015, if approved by the Kansas Insurance Department, according to NCCI’s presentation.
