India: Infrastructure damage due to Jammu & Kashmir floods may reach $983.4 million

A Jammu & Kashmir state government official has said that damage to public infrastructure due to the recent floods could total around 60 billion Indian rupees ($983.4 million), reported Outlook India citing the Press Trust of India.

Flooding by Jhelum river affected five major hospitals in Srinagar city with equipment worth millions being damaged. Massive damage to residential and commercial buildings is likely, the official added. Losses from overall crop destruction would amount to nearly INR 100 billion ($1.6 billion).
