Pirates hit petroleum products tanker near Ivory Coast

A maritime agency and a private security advisor have said that pirates attacked and robbed a tanker containing petroleum products near Ivory Coast's port of Abidjan, reported Reuters.

The tanker was not damaged and no crew members were injured. Insurance costs for shipping companies have increased as pirate attacks in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea have nearly doubled from 2013. Maritime officials said there were had been no reports of successful hijackings off Ivory Coast in more than a year.
