Possibility of more big earthquakes in north Chile remains, scientists say

There is a possibility that more big earthquakes could hit north Chile, which was shaken by an 8.2-magnitude quake in April, scientists have said.

Scientists said the levels of strain in the region's rocks remain dangerously high and the local populace should be prepared for the possibility of future events being more powerful than the April temblor, BBC reports. Researchers said the scale of the April tremor was not enough to remove the strain that had developed in the plates since 1877, BBC reported.
