LAS VEGAS — Outsourcing disability and absence management to third parties will become more popular as employers continue feeling pressure to “do more with less,” Broadspire Services Inc. CEO Danielle Lisenbey said Wednesday.
Broadspire, the third-party administration unit of Atlanta-based Crawford & Co., announced Monday that it is launching a suite of integrated disability and absence management services this fall. Ms. Lisenbey, who is attending the Disability Management Employer Coalition’s conference in Las Vegas this week, said offering short- and long-term disability and federal and state leave management services will allow Broadspire to better meet the demands of employers.
“Employers are really under a lot of cost pressures,” she said. “Yes, the economy is slowly improving but not to the degree of where it was pre-2008. They’re under a lot of pressure to do more with less. That’s what we’re hearing and that’s one of our drivers to do this.”
For example, one existing workers compensation client “knows the disability side of the house is coming her way because they’re doing some major consolidations over the next two years,” Ms. Lisenbey said. “She doesn’t want to have to have multiple things to manage and she wants someone to assist her, so that’s really where we’re seeing the pressure points from employers, and that’s a key driver.”
Though the new Integrated Disability and Absence Management Services will give clients the option to integrate, they’ll also have the option to pick and choose services, Ms. Lisenbey said, adding there’s no one system that will work for every employer.
“We’re all under cost pressure, so having the right program, right partner, the right results in place to make it happen (is important),” she said. “There's a lot of consolidation in our space, the work comp space, the medical space. People are looking for options.”
