European taxi drivers strike over Uber app

Taxi drivers across major European cities brought traffic to a standstill as they protested taxi-hailing application Uber, BBC reported.

The drivers said that Uber, an online taxi service that connects passengers and drivers via an app and meters the charges based on the length of journey, did not adhere to local regulations. London's black cab drivers said this method of charging is something only black cabs are entitled to. While taxi drivers staged demonstrations in parts of Italy, train services in Paris were badly hit by the strike.
