Japan: Volcano risk for nuclear plants being actively discussed

Since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, utilities in Japan have promised steps to strengthen their nuclear facilities against earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes and terrorist attacks, Reuters reported, but the focus of experts' post-Fukushima discussions has now moved to volcanoes.

Some recent comments by Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority imply that regulators have underestimated this risk, with one expert saying volcanic risks have not been "adequately discussed," Reuters reports.
