Liberty International Underwriters, a unit of Boston-based Liberty Mutual Holding Co. Inc., has joined forces with a cyber security firm to provide cyber risk policyholders ratings on their information security.

Cambridge, Mass.-based BitSight Technologies’ security rating service offers cyber protection for policyholders business and customer data, LIU said in a statement Wednesday.

“Risk mitigation for cyber exposures does not begin and end with an insurance policy,” Oliver Brew, vice president of privacy and technology for LIU, said in the statement. “To truly help policyholders protect against cyber threats, we need to work with agents and brokers to provide services that actively mitigate the constant threat posed by hackers.”

Policyholders do not need to provide LIU or BitSight with any information and there is no testing involved, the insurer said.

BitSight tracks and analyzes security events and then alerts LIU about unusual behaviors, allowing LIU to notify brokers and policyholders of any activity, according to the statement.

The service is available for policyholders who have the tech insure, data insure and data pro insure coverages from LIU, the insurer said.
