Berkshire Hathaway Specialty adds builders risk insurance

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, the Boston-based commercial insurance arm of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has added builders risk insurance to its commercial property offerings.

The company also said Wednesday that Robert Tricamo has been named to the new post of vice president of construction, overseeing the specialty unit's entry into the builders risk marketplace.

“Builders risk is a natural extension of our property and specialty lines expertise,” Sanjay Godhwani, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty's executive vice president of property and programs, said in a statement. “These new capabilities enable us to round out our construction offering, bringing large-scale capacity and technical underwriting experience to large projects.”

Mr. Tricamo most recently was product line manager for builders risk at New York-based Arch Insurance Group Inc.

“With his combination of technical skills and industry relationships, Rob is uniquely qualified to lead our expansion into this specialty line of coverage,” Dean LaPierre, vice president and property underwriting officer at Berkshire, said in the statement.
