Amlin launches Hamburg office for small, midsize enterprises

Amlin P.L.C. has opened an office in Hamburg, Germany, and began writing business there on Jan. 1 for small and medium-sized enterprises, the insurer announced Monday.

Amlin said in a statement that its German branch focuses on specialized property/casualty business for those enterprises.

London-based Amlin said it has received permission from the German regulator, the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht, and the Dutch regulator, De Nederlandsche Bank, to open a branch of its European operation, Netherlands-based Amlin Europe N.V., in Germany.

The operation is headed by Managing Director Martin Bircks, who formerly was head of liability, casualty and legal protection and head of product management for commercial lines at Zurich Insurance Group Ltd.
