Brokerage Hilb Group buys Tampa-area insurance agency

The Hilb Group L.L.C. has acquired Tampa, Fla.-based Hockman Insurance Agency Inc., Richmond, Va.-based Hilb announced Tuesday.

The transaction was effective Jan. 1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hockman Insurance Agency provides both commercial and personal lines coverages in the greater Tampa area, Hilb said in a statement. The agency will continue to operate at its current location.

The Hilb Group was founded by Robert H. Hilb, former CEO and chairman of insurance brokerage Hilb, Rogal & Hobbs Co., and Robert J. Hilb, former corporate vice president of the firm, which ranked ninth on Business Insurance’s list of the largest brokerages of U.S. business in 2007 and was acquired by Willis Group Holdings P.L.C. in 2008.
