Progressive Chairman Peter Lewis dies

Peter B. Lewis, chairman of Mayfield Village, Ohio-based insurer Progressive Corp., has died at the age of 80.

Progressive, known primarily as a personal lines automobile insurer, said Monday that Glenn M. Renwick had been elected as chairman of Progressive's board following Mr. Lewis' death on Saturday.

Progressive said in a statement that Mr. Renwick will continue to serve as the insurer's president and CEO.

In addition to building Progressive, which his father co-founded in the 1930s, into one of the largest auto insurers in the country, Mr. Lewis was known as a philanthropist and supporter of politically liberal causes.
