China: Dual insurance regulatory approach planned in Shanghai

Foreign reinsurers and insurers are looking at ways to tap opportunities in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone and media reports indicate that operators in the zone may be given some leeway with regards to reporting requirements, Hexun.com reported.

Shanghai's insurance regulators are also reportedly considering different regulatory approaches for onshore and offshore businesses to ensure development in both segments. The regional regulator said it would encourage onshore insurers to expand overseas, while also supporting international insurance brokers in the city.
