Pirates target cargo tankers off West Africa

Denmark-based Risk Intelligence has said Gulf of Guinea pirates are increasingly targeting international cargo ships, and that shipments worth $100 million have been stolen since 2010, Agence France-Presse reported.

The number of attacks off coastal Nigeria, Togo and Benin has fallen but there have now "been more targeted attacks against product-carrying tankers," Risk Intelligence's head of maritime security Dirk Steffen told AFP.
