Bangladesh: Unrest has cost apparel industry $38.7 million, says association

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association said the ongoing unrest, involving garment workers, would cost the industry nearly 5 billion Bangladeshi takas ($64.5 million), Dhaka Tribune reported.

Production worth BDT 3 billion has been hampered, and BDT 2 billion would be required if they opt for air-shipments to meet deadlines, the association said. Reaz-Bin-Mahmood, vice president of the association, said 65 factories were vandalized, 15 set on fire and 70 vehicles damaged.
