Allied World U.S. and the American Professional Agency Inc. have launched a medical malpractice insurance program for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physicians assistants working in behavioral health.

The suite is developed specifically to address the exposures faced by nurse practitioners and physician assistants, while supervised by a psychiatrist, in the mental health field, Allied World Assurance Co. Holdings, the parent of Allied World U.S., announced in a statement.

The coverage includes legal liability, personal and advertising injury, and privacy and licensing board complaint coverage, according to the statement.

“As the sole broker of professional liability insurance for members of the (American Psychiatric Association) and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the two largest psychiatric associations in the nation, we continually strive to meet the evolving needs of mental health practitioners. This new coverage meets those needs,” Peter T. Imbert, the American Professional Agency’s executive vice president, said in the release.
