Syria: War cost economy an estimated $60 billion to $80 billion, says ex-official

Syria's civil war has cost the economy an estimated $60 billion to $80 billion, Abdullah al-Dardari, former Syrian Planning Minister, said.

Omar Al Ibrahim Ghalaounji, Syria's Local Administration Minister, said damages from "terrorist attacks on government buildings and infrastructure" cost the public sector $15 million between March 2011 and March 2013, The Associated Press reported. The war destroyed several of Syria's manufacturing units and infrastructure, while also bringing oil production and exports to a standstill.
