South Africa: Impala Platinum workers go on strike

Metal producer Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd. said about 3,000 unauthorized workers have gone on strike after the company took action against one of its South African mine workers, Bloomberg reported.

This strike follows some other recent strikes and labor-union rivalries that threaten a turnaround in South Africa. In 2012, Impala fired 17,200 workers for taking part in a six-week work stoppage, which caused production activities to come to a halt.
