Bangladesh: Several garment factories susceptible to collapse, says poll

A poll by engineers has found that around 60% of garment factories in Bangladesh, the world's second-largest clothes supplier, face a risk of collapse, reports The Guardian.

Mehedi Ansary, who led the survey, said the results do not mean that buildings housing such factories "will collapse in the next week or month," but leaving them unchanged "would be irresponsible." Bangladesh is home to many factories that supply western retailers and the recent Rana Plaza collapse has prompted these retailers to try and improve conditions at the factories.
