Bangladesh: Labor activists slam injured worker compensation, demand stricter laws

Labor leaders in Bangladesh have slammed the country's labor law, which values a laborer's life at only 100,000 Bangladeshi takas ($1,284), reports The Daily Star.

While the government had recently doubled the insurance for workers to BDT 200,000 ($2,568), activists have said insurance claims are not an alternative to compensation payments from owners and demanded a better compensation. The leaders said a stricter law is needed that will compel business owners to sufficiently support workers in event of workplace accidents and also dissuade them from breaching safety measures.
