Swiss Re highpoints governments' role in insuring against calamities

Swiss Re executives who attended the recent 'World Economic Forum on Latin America' in Peru said that national governments have a crucial role to play in insuring against natural disasters, reports BNamericas.

Margo Black and Alejandro Padilla, Swiss Re's heads for Latin American business, urged the region's nations to follow the example of Mexico, where an earthquake fund was recently enhanced to also protect against damages from hurricanes. Swiss Re CEO Michael Liès said that a good disaster risk approach will help strengthen governments' financial resilience.
