Insurance veteran Art Glatfelter dies at age 88

Art Glatfelter, founder of Glatfelter Insurance Group, died Thursday at age 88.

Mr. Glatfelter started in the insurance business after joining the Marine Corps in 1942, serving mostly in the South Pacific, according to the York Daily Record, a York, Pa.-based newspaper. He founded the York, Pa.-based company in 1951.

In 1968, Mr. Glatfelter developed a market for volunteer fire companies and firefighters, which today includes insurance, education and consulting services for numerous types of emergency service organizations.
