Heavy rains hit Australia's mining industry; floods now threaten Brisbane

The recent heavy rains in Queensland, which has resulted in several properties being destroyed, has also hit the state’s coal sector, Australian daily The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Rainfalls of around 200-400 millimeters poured over the Bowen Basin, which is home to some large mines belonging to Anglo American P.L.C., BHP Billiton Ltd. and Peabody Energy Corp., among others.

Yancoal Australia Co. Ltd. has shut down two coal mines in Queensland.
