OFF BEAT: Man says club hustled him into $28,000 bar tab

They say ignorance is not a defense. Apparently drunkenness isn’t, either.

A man who tried to litigate to get out of a $28,000 bar tab he ran up during a drunken night out at a New York strip club apparently didn’t have a leg to stand on when he had his day in court.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Manuel Mendez dismissed William Ilg’s lawsuit against the Hustler Club, asserting “there is no duty upon (Hustler Club) to protect the plaintiff from the results of his (voluntary) intoxication.”

In his suit, Mr. Ilg claimed that the Hustler Club should not have continued serving him alcohol after he became intoxicated because he was “no longer capable of conducting financial transactions.” He also stated that the club committed “a fraud and wrongful conversion” when it refused his demands for a refund.

The judge also tossed another legal action Mr. IIg filed this year claiming the club lacked a proper liquor license.
