OFF BEAT: Burger joint's ad campaign gives 'condom'-ents new meaning

It’s an ad campaign that may have Australian burger enthusiasts thinking twice before asking, “Where’s the beef?”

Burger Urge, a Brisbane, Australia-based burger joint, has drawn fire from consumers over promotional mailers that included condoms emblazoned with the restaurant’s logo and the slogan “Get intimate with our new premium beef,” according to a report by the Courier Mail.

The restaurant’s owner, Sean Carthew, said the complaints have been rolling in since the mailers went out this past weekend, according to the Courier Mail. In an email, one customer told Mr. Carthew that he expected the campaign would drive customers away from Burger Urge and toward competitors with “some shred of class.”

Mr. Carthew told the Courier Mail that he was prepared for the backlash: “I feel like us staying in business is our primary objective, and if that means that one or two percent of the population might be offended and might boycott our store, well then I can still sleep at night.”
