AIG rebrands, replaces Chartis, SunAmerica names

American International Group Inc. has begun using the AIG name as its brand again, AIG announced Sunday.

AIG announced its intention in June to revert to the old name for its commercial property/casualty operations, replacing the Chartis Inc. name that it had adopted in 2009 after a 2008 federal intervention saved the company from collapse. The company also announced at the time that its SunAmerica Financial Group life and retirement operations would become AIG Life and Retirement.

AIG later announced that it was adopting a new logo and on Sunday said that as part of its rebranding, the New York-based insurer had “adopted a new brand promise: Bring on tomorrow.”

“AIG as a global insurance brand is back,” said AIG President and CEO Robert H. Benmosche in a statement issued Sunday. “The relaunch of the AIG name marks a significant achievement for our company. 'Bring on tomorrow' underscores AIG's tremendous tenacity and ambition — to solve problems, to innovate for the benefit of our clients and to act as a powerful, global team.”
