Workers compensation premiums to grow by 9% in 2012: NCCI

Workers comp premiums are expected to exceed 2011 growth by 9%.

U.S. workers compensation premium volume for 2012 is on track to exceed 2011 growth by 9%, marking the second year of the line's expansion, NCCI Holdings Inc. reported Wednesday.

Total premiums written are expected to reach $35.2 billion, Boca Raton, Fla.-based NCCI said in an October financial update.

Insurers' net combined ratio, meanwhile, is expected to improve slightly for 2012, marking the first decline and moderation of underwriting losses since 2006. NCCI said it projects the combined ratio will stand at 113% for 2012.
