FERMA weighs pan-European risk management certification

BRUSSELS—The Federation of European Risk Management Assns. is considering establishing a pan-European risk management professional certification.

A working group is developing plans for the certification with the intent of presenting their findings at FERMA's 2012 seminar in Versailles, France, that will be held Oct. 22-23.

In a statement released Monday, Brussels-based FERMA said it intends for the certification to provide independent confirmation of the holder's risk management knowledge and experience with the goal of putting risk management on a standing similar to that of professions such as law and accounting.

The working group plans to involve FERMA’s national member associations and other education providers in establishing professional and specialist certifications.

The professional certification—intended for senior-level risk managers—would be based on experience and include evidence of the risk manager’s professional development and education.

The specialist certification—aimed at risk managers at an earlier stage of their career—would involve formal education and examination by accredited organizations.

FERMA includes 22 national risk management associations from 20 European countries and has 4,500 individual members representing a variety of business sectors.
