Duane Morris law firm adds 16 former Dewey & LeBoeuf attorneys

PHILADELPHIA—Attorneys continue to exit financially ailing Dewey & LeBoeuf L.L.P., as Philadelphia-based law firm Duane Morris L.L.P. on Tuesday said it is adding 16 former Dewey & LeBoeuf lawyers to its firm.
The lawyers, who have experience in the areas of corporate, insurance regulatory, energy, mergers and acquisitions, tax and employee benefits, will join Duane Morris in its New York, Boston and Washington offices.
The new hires include Alice T. Kane, a former general counsel at New York-based New York Life Co. and interim global general counsel of Schaumburg, Ill.-based Zurich Insurance Co. Ltd.
Duane Morris' existing insurance and reinsurance practice includes almost 100 lawyers, the law firm said in a statement.
“We are very pleased to have these excellent lawyers join Duane Morris, complementing and expanding our strong practices in insurance, energy and technology, and across the entire corporate, litigation and regulatory spectrum,” Duane Morris Chairman and CEO John J. Soroko said in the Statement.
The defections at Dewey & LeBoeuf are the latest in a series of departures the firm has endured.
In March, law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher L.L.P. added a team of 12 lawyers from Dewey & LeBoeuf's insurance practice.
In April, James R. Woods, co-chair of Dewey & LeBoeuf's global insurance industry practice, joined Mayer Brown L.L.P. in New York, while four lawyers led by John Nonna, chair of Dewey & LeBoeuf's insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution practice, joined Patton Boggs L.L.P. in New York.
In May, the former co-head of Dewey & LeBoeuf's U.S. litigation practice, Ellen M. Dunn, joined other Dewey & LeBoeuf alumni, including captive industry expert P. Bruce Wright at New York-based Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan L.L.P.
Last week, Charles Landgraf, who served as chair of Dewey & LeBoeuf's legislative and public policy practice group and as managing partner of the firm's Washington office, left to join Washington-based Arnold & Porter L.L.P.
