CHARLESTON, S.C.—Benefitfocus has launched an online platform it says is intended to make benefits shopping easier for employees of large companies.

Called HR InTouch Marketplace, the online private exchange mimics a retail site where employees can go online and add their chosen plans to a shopping cart. The program keeps a running tally of the employer's contribution and their own out-of-pocket costs. Employees can view benefit plans, wellness programs, company programs and perks.

"The dawn of retail in benefits is here," Shawn Jenkins, Benefitfocus' president and CEO, said in a statement. “With the introduction of HR InTouch Marketplace, everyone is now a benefits consumer. We've designed a completely new experience for employees based on personalization, social tools, mobility and, most importantly, choice."
