Catlin receives approval to establish office in Beijing

HAMILTON, Bermuda—The Chinese Insurance Regulatory Commission has granted Catlin Group Ltd. approval to establish a representative office in Beijing, Catlin announced Thursday.

“The establishment of a representative office in Beijing further increases Catlin’s commitment to the insurance and reinsurance market in China,” said Catlin in a statement announcing the approval.

Catlin noted that while no business will be underwritten from the new Beijing office, “its establishment will allow Catlin to liaise more closely with relevant departments of the Chinese government and insurance industry organizations, as well as conduct market research regarding insurance and reinsurance in China.”

Catlin announced last November that it had entered into a partnership with the state-owned China Reinsurance (Group) Corp. to establish a special-purpose syndicate at Lloyd’s of London.
