Vermont insurance regulatory agency gets new name

MONTPELIER, Vt.—The Vermont state agency responsible for insurance regulation is operating under a new name: the Department of Financial Regulation.

The agency formerly was known as the Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration. The department is home to Vermont’s Captive Insurance Division.

Much of BISHCA’s responsibility for health care oversight was moved last year to the state’s Green Mountain Care Board.

The name change took effect last week. The department’s website can still be found at www.bishca.state.vt.us, and phone numbers and email addresses of department employees are unchanged.
